Renovation main building Evonik completed: façade becomes a beacon at the Tijsmanstunnel-West

Evonik Antwerpen is located for more than 45 years in the port of Antwerp. It is the largest production site outside Germany of the wellknown chemical giant and has been one of the key players in the Antwerp chemical cluster for many years. The administrative main building of the factory, in which management, staff services and administration have their offices, was built at the end of the sixties and needed renovation. In 2007 was started with the conversion of the interior into a modern design. The outside was fully stripped and replaced by a new covering. Extra insulation was applied all over, which should reduce the heating costs by 50%.

“We want to create a workspace which is fun and pleasant for our employees. With the new façade we consciously go a step further than an average office building. We want to radiate, both literally and figuratively, that we are an attractive employer, who is not afraid of a modern and striking architecture,” says Stefan Kroll, Managing Director of Evonik Antwerpen. “But also for people who do not work with us, our building is worth seeing. Based on the first reactions, I think that our building has become a strong beacon in the port and at the Scheldelaan.
